How to Read a Diamond Report...

At first glance a Diamond Grading Report may be confusing. Here is a quick reference to certifications.
Mouse over different parts of the Certificate to read further explanations.




Legend
Date:
Date Report Issued
Shape and Cutting:
Description of the outline of the diamond (shape) and the pattern of the facet arrangement (cutting style)
Measurements:
The diamond dimensions in millimeters. Dimensions listed as: minimum diameter x maximum diameter x depth (for round diamonds).Length x width x depth (for fancy shapes)
Weight:
Weight of diamond listed to the nearest hundredth of a carat. One carat equals t/5 gram
Depth:
Depth (for round diamonds) and/or width (for fancy shapes) relative to diameter
Table:
Table facet (for round diamonds) and/or width (for fancy shapes) relative to the diameter
Girdle:
Range of girdle thickness. Polished or faceted, if applicable
Culet:
Appearance of the culet facet
Finish:
Grades of polish and symmetry. Represent quality of surface condition (polish); and the size, shape and placement of the facets, including evenness of shape's outline (symmetry)
Clarity:
Clarity grade determined under 10x magnification. Internal (inclusions) and external (blemishes)
Clarity Plot:
A map of the appropriate size, shape, type and position of inclusions as viewed under a microscope
Color:
Grade of color; ranges from D (highest colorless) to Z (lowest yellow)
Fluorescence:
Color and strength of color when diamond is viewed under UV light
Keys to Symbols:
Illustrates and lists the characteristics and symbols shown on diagram, if present
